Industry internship

Maryam Khazraee spent 10 weeks over the summer taking part in an internship with the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy and Pfizer, gaining knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and health plans … and paving the way for future UF pharmacy interns to take part in the program. Only seven students were chosen nationally for the internship program. Khazraee, 22, a third-year pharmacy student and executive director of the UF chapter of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy, was the first UF student ever selected. During the internship, she spent part of her time interning at Prime Therapeutics in Bloomington, Minn., and a week in Alexandria, Va., at the AMCP Foundation. As part of her internship she conducted a health outcomes study regarding adherence in prescribed drugs for patients with atrial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat that affects blood flow. In October, she presented her research findings at the AMCP 2013 Nexus Conference in San Antonio. — Nicole ZakrzewskiKhazaree
