With his trademark smile firmly in place, Gator basketball legend and Denver Nuggets forward Corey Brewer held his third annual basketball camp for kids in Gainesville last month. The Corey Brewer Back-to-Back Youth Basketball Camp for boys and girls featured lectures, player evaluations, basketball drills, games and education sessions led by Brewer and other coaches from Five Star Basketball, the camp’s sponsor. Proceeds from the camp went to UF&Shands, the University of Florida Academic Health Center and the UF Diabetes Center of Excellence. Brewer established the

Corey Brewer Fight Diabetes Fund to support patient education programs and raise awareness about the disease. Brewer’s father, Ellis Brewer, died in 2011 at age 68, of complications from diabetes.
