Nurses and tiaras
UF College of Nursing senior Jeseeka Gustave recently was crowned Ms. UF African Student Union for 2012-2013. Never having competed in a pageant before, Jeseeka entered on the advice of a friend. Before the pageant, each contestant was required to collect donations in a decorated jar for the Sankofa Children’s Home in Ghana. They were judged on their Gator spirit, their cultural literacy and a talent round where Gustave read two of her original poems. Gustave raised the most money for the Children’s Home with the $150 she collected coming from nursing faculty and students, making her the People’s Choice Award winner as well. Gustave will go on to compete in the Volunteers for International Student Affairs, or VISA, pageant this spring.
