Working dogs need special care

Active working service animals will be able to receive a free screening eye examination by the UF Small Animal Hospital on May 30. Caryn Plummer, Ph.D., an assistant professor and board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist at UF Health, will provide the examinations as part of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists’ National Service Dog Eye Exam event. The animals, such as guide dogs, police dogs and certified therapy dogs, must be certified by a formal training program, or currently enrolled in one, to qualify. Owners must fill out a registration form online at www.acvoeyeexam.org and schedule an appointment by calling 352-392-2235.
