A breath of fresh air

UF scientists gathered at Austin Cary Learning Center Aug. 28 for the UF Center for Respiratory Research and Rehabilitation’s kickoff event. The day featured presentations by 15 UF investigators who conduct research on breathing function in conditions such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, Pompe disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury and sepsis. Designed to bring together researchers from across campus, the center will offer research support through pilot project grants and equipment, and provide multiple opportunities for interaction, such as the monthly “Respiratory Social and Science Seminar Series.” The center is directed by Gordon Mitchell, Ph.D., a professor in the College of Public Health and Health Professions department of physical therapy.
