New oasis for students
The new Professional Student Lounge at UF Health had its grand opening in April during Graduate Student Appreciation Week. The lounge, in Room 74 on the ground floor of the Communicore Building, provides busy students with a place to relax and recharge. — Greg Hamilton
Two named to top UF Health Shands
Eric Rosenberg, M.D., MSPH, FACP, has been named associate chief medical officer for UF Health Shands. Rosenberg will report to the chief medical officer and will continue to serve as the UF College of Medicine’s chief of general internal medicine. His expertise in patient safety and adult inpatient treatment through interprofessional protocols have standardized and improved quality care. Also, Shelley Wells Collins, M.D., has been named UF Health Shands interim director of clinical quality. Collins joined the CMO team in July 2016 in addition to serving as UF College of Medicine associate professor of pediatrics and UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital inpatient medical director. She serves on the children’s hospital Operations Committee, the Family Centered Care Committee, the Hospital Utilization Review Committee and the Pediatric Patient Safety Advisory Group. — Kim Rose
UF Health breaks ground for multispecialty medical facility at Springhill
UF Health officials in May began construction of a medical office building that will house multiple UF Health Physicians practices and services, including the primary care specialties of internal medicine and family medicine, as well as adult and child psychiatry, allergy, integrative medicine, medical psychology and pain management. An outpatient pharmacy and a clinical laboratory in the new building will service both Springhill facilities. The $36 million, 72,000-square-foot building will be behind the current facility off Northwest 39th Avenue and is slated to be completed in August 2018. — Rossana Passaniti
UF Health Jacksonville’s emergency room earns top honors
UF Health Jacksonville’s emergency department has been singled out for excellence by national health care research leader Professional Research Consultants, Inc., or PRC, which awarded it four stars for its overall quality of care score for all downtown emergency department areas plus the performance of the emergency department at UF Health North. Several other UF Health Jacksonville departments were honored as individual best performers by PRC, including the inpatient psychiatric unit and the cardiovascular intensive care unit, and the emergency room and outpatient surgery center at UF Health North. — Dan Leveton
